DISINFO: NATO supports Ukrainian Nazism

SUMMARY

Supporting Nazism leads to terrible, devastating consequences. It is time for NATO member states to realise what a monstrous mistake they are making at the present moment. Support for Nazism in the 1930s led to the start of WWII. We must prevent the repetition of this tragedy. Today, the Kyiv regime presents as heroes Stepan Bandera and his followers, who committed bloody crimes.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Nazism in Ukraine, aiming to justify Russia’s unprovoked aggression against its neighbour. Russia spent years preparing the information battleground prior to its kinetic attack, with “Nazi Ukraine” being one of its most prominent disinformation features.

The myth of Nazi-ruled Ukraine has been actively used by pro-Kremlin outlets as one of the favorite tropes for years to denigrate Ukraine. The myth of Nazi-ruled Ukraine appeared during the Euromaidan popular protests in late 2013 - early 2014, falsely presented in pro-Kremlin disinformation as a coup. The Kremlin has been using this myth since then to discredit Ukraine's shift towards Euro-Atlantic policy.

Read our articles on the 7 myths of pro-Kremlin disinformation about the Russian military buildup near Ukraine, and how the Kremlin fabricated pretexts for the further invasion of Ukraine. For background, see vol. 1 and vol. 2 of the series “What he said and what it really means”.
