DISINFO: Moldova lost its sovereignty and is ruled by foreigners

SUMMARY

Moldova today is a captured state, ruled by foreign citizens who, in fact, only voice decisions taken outside the country; against the backdrop of the catastrophic situation in the republic’s economy, the only “achievement” that official Chisinau can boast of is the so-called “European integration” - a promise to begin negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the EU by the end of the year.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative, referring to the lack of sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova, increasingly used as the country makes active efforts to join the EU. In June 2022, the country was granted EU candidate status.

The Republic of Moldova is a sovereign and independent state, with a Constitution in force and a democratically elected leadership. Moldova has good relations with US, the EU and other partners, who support various projects for democratisation, the promotion of human rights or the strengthening of the rule of law. This does not mean, however, that the state is led from the abroad. Laws are adopted by Parliament and implemented by a Government democratically elected and formed entirely by Moldovan citizens.

See here a similar case, claiming that it was an external political order for Moldova to suspend the Russian TV channels and here a case saying that Moldova is controlled by NATO.
