SUMMARY

During her visit to Georgia on 22 August, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the country to receive Syrian refugees.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative: euvsdisinfo.eu/disinformation-cases/?text=refugee&disinfo_issue=&disinfo_language%5B%5D=geo&date=, Angela Merkel did indeed speak, about migration during her visit in Georgia, but she mentioned the asylum-seekers from Georgia, and not the Syrian refugees. According to Merkel, the number of asylum-seekers from Georgia drastically increased in Germany after the introduction of visa-free regime. According to Mythdetektor, she also added that Germany would recognize Georgia as a safe country of origin for the return of migrants.
