DISINFO: LGBT activists tried to 'win over'; the Motherland monument in Kyiv

Russian TV channel "Zvezda" shows video footage of LGBT march, but actually this year’s Kyiv Pride was conducted completely online. The hanging of the LGBT flag on the top of a Motherland monument by the LGBT activists In Kyiv has nothing to do with "pulling the monument to their side" or the USA. Activists managed to raise the LGBTQ+ symbol above the Motherland Monument, a Soviet-era war memorial in Kyiv making it seem as if the rainbow flag was flying from her sword. They did so via a drone. A video of the aerial activism shows the 20-by-14-foot flag soaring over the Eastern European nation's capital toward the statue. A trick of the camera angle appeared to show the banner attached to the monument's sword. The video was posted on Facebook with the hashtag #momwillunderstandandsupport, a reference to the statue's symbolic status, from Soviet times, as the mother of the nation. Dronarium Ukraine, the drone company used by Kyiv Pride, released a statement Monday asserting the action's legality. “Drone flights were carried out under the current legislation and according to the rules of the State Service," the company asserted on Facebook. “Our team is absolutely tolerant. We are against the manifestation of aggression against the LGBT community, we consider it the (act of someone from the) Middle Ages," it added. Calling American diplomatic missions as main protagonists of hanging the LGBT flags is in line with the recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about threatened values, which is used to undermine progressive Western attitudes about a variety of normative issues, including the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities, and LGBTQ groups, among others. This story is also consistent with narratives accusing the United States and other Western countries of meddling and attempting to forcibly impose their liberal values on countries with a strong Christian tradition.
