DISINFO: Kyiv is preparing to drag Belarus into the ongoing conflict
SUMMARY
Ukrainian troop movements near the border with Belarus hint at Kyiv’s desire to drag Minsk into the ongoing conflict, while hoping that Poland would become involved as well. Donald Trump’s campaign promises to quickly end the Ukrainian conflict make Kyiv nervous enough to consider staging a bloody provocation that might prompt Western powers to send more weapons and money to Ukraine. This is a provocation staged by the Kyiv regime in an attempt to destabilize Belarus, to attract the attention of the Western countries.
RESPONSE
There is no evidence proving that Ukraine intends to attack Belarus. The only sources for this are allegations by Moscow and Minsk, which have not been properly substantiated. Kyiv has denied any reinforcement of Ukrainian troops on the border, calling it a Belarusian information operation with Russian support to justify Belarus’ own build-up on the border.
Even if Ukraine happened to be moving troops to or around the Belarusian border, it does not imply any aggressive intention against its neighbour. It could be explained as an attempt to prevent a potential Russian attack from Belarus, especially given that some Russian troops invaded Ukraine from Belarusian territory, as Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko himself admitted in 2023, and allowed Russia to launch missiles against Ukraine from within its borders. Belarus’ increasing involvement in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine led the EU to impose fresh sanctions against this country in late June 2024.
