DISINFO: Kyiv agrees with UNESCO to export the Orthodox relics of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to the EU

SUMMARY

Kyiv has agreed with UNESCO to export the Orthodox relics of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to the EU under the pretext of "rescuing from Russian missile strikes". Accordingly, the relics will be transferred to the museums of Italy, France, Germany and the Vatican.

RESPONSE

A pro-Kremlin disinformation portraying Ukraine as an enemy of the Orthodox Church. This unfounded claim was made in the context of Russia's unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine.

There is no evidence that the Ukrainian authorities agreed with UNESCO about the removal and transfer of holy relics from the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra to the EU. The Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tkachenko, and the General Director of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Reserve, Maksym Ostapenko, denied the information about reaching such an agreement.
