DISINFO: Western aid to Armenia has a destabilising nature

SUMMARY

The increase in financial assistance to Armenia from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) confirms the destabilising nature of Western countries' activities in Armenia and the South Caucasus.

It is impossible not to see the facts, trends and experiences of neighbouring states and other countries of the world where similar experiments have already been conducted.

RESPONSE

An anti-Western narrative suggesting that USAID is trying to destabilise Armenia and the South Caucasus region as a whole. Read a similar case claiming that USAID attempted a coup in Georgia.

This is the Kremlin's reaction to the US Agency for International Development's decision to more than double its five-year aid package to Armenia, from $120 million to $250 million in September 2024. The enhanced agreement will include key sectors such as disaster risk management, cybersecurity, food and energy security, regional cooperation and trade, democratic processes and inclusive economic development.

USAID is an independent US federal government agency, which oversees the U.S. Government's international development and disaster assistance in support of American foreign policy. Through collaboration and investment, it aims to prevent poverty, save lives, bolster democratic governance, and assist individuals in resolving humanitarian crises and moving past aid.

More about USAID's activities in Armenia can be seen here.

Pro-Kremlin and other Russian state-controlled outlets promote the idea that Armenia and the Caucasus are exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempt to discredit any other cooperation between Western countries and Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. Russia has cautioned Yerevan that the West is trying to drive a wedge between Armenia and Russia. Read a similar case claiming that the West wants to tear Armenia away from Russia.
