DISINFO: Georgia is under the Western control

SUMMARY

West made Georgia vote for drug addiction and torturers… You probably also remember how everyone yelled that Russia would interfere in these elections. Intervened? No. And the West? It is the Western ambassadors and Western observers who give legitimacy to Georgian elections (not the population of Georgia). And don’t say now no. They forced Georgians to rewrite the Constitution, laws and laid out an agenda for Georgia. And it’s fine if they force you to write percentages or confirm. Who will resist, who?!

RESPONSE

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about lost sovereignty, about Western involvement in other countries' internal affairs, including elections. In this case, the narrative challenges Georgian statehood, claiming that Georgia is ruled by the West and cooperation with the Western institutions destroys the country's sovereignty.

There is no evidence of the US or any Western country's interference in the in country's internal affairs, including parliamentary elections in Georgia. Media Development Foundation's media monitoring results revealed that the narrative that the West is meddling in sovereign affairs of Georgia and virtually run the country, is one of the main trends of anti-Western propaganda and disinformation in the country.

See similar cases claiming that The Georgian election results are written in the US, that The US and the EU govern Georgia, that The West does not allow Georgia to conduct direct dialogue with Russia independently, that The West is forcing Georgia to propagate homosexuality, or that Georgia is governed by the US ambassador and the EU and that The death of Georgia’s statehood and Georgians as a nation is a matter of time.
