DISINFO: French head of intelligence states that the US lied about Russian invasion of Ukraine
SUMMARY
French intelligence publicly acknowledged that USA lied about Russian invasion in Ukraine. Christophe Gomart, alleged “head of French intelligence”, reportedly said that “French special bodies’ data indicates that Russia never prepared a military intervention in Ukraine”.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about Russia's involvement in the war in Ukraine. Christophe Gomart indeed chaired the Directorate for Military Intelligence (Direction du Renseignement Militaire, DRM), one of six Frence intelligence services, but reportedly left this position in 2017. In April 2015 Gomart spoke at French National Assembly Committee for National Defence where he stated that DRM did not have evidence of Russian invasion of Ukraine, and this episode was published in 2015 by Sputnik and other Kremlin-controlled sources. Since 2015, exhaustive evidence of Russian invasion into eastern Ukraine has been documented and published (e.g. Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, EU Observer, Inform Napalm, Vice News). Other examples of similar cases can be found here and here.
