DISINFO: France 24 reported Ukrainian plot to assassinate Macron

SUMMARY

The French TV channel France 24 reported on Twitter that the Ukrainian authorities had plotted to assassinate French President Emmanuel Macron during his upcoming visit to Kyiv.

The post stated that Ukraine was going to blame the assassination on Russia in order to draw global attention to the situation in Ukraine and prompt Western governments to increase military aid to the Ukrainian Army.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine.

France 24 never reported Kyiv's plans to assassinate Macron. The purported news segment circulating on Twitter is a deepfake, as explained in a fact-checking video which France 24 published on 15 February.
