DISINFO: Events in Serbia are a Western attempt at a colour revolution
SUMMARY
Brussels is skilful in punishing others. Its mastership of colour revolutions is becoming more refined. Whereas in Belarus, Moldova and Georgia the involvement of Westerners was clear, they left nearly no traces in Bosnia and Romania. The events in Belgrade look as if the Serbians took to the streets on their own will. The war igniters skilfully succeeded to make Serbians think that the tragedy in Novi Sad was only the tip of the iceberg and that the Serbian government is totally corrupted. Making big claims out of local problems is a new level of manipulation.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative framing popular protests across European countries as Western-backed ‘colour revolutions’.
There is no evidence of any Western involvement in Serbia’s protests. Demonstrations started in mid-December 2024 after the collapse of a concrete infrastructure in a railway station in Novi Sad killed 15 people, an incident that many protesters blamed on corruption. The protest movement was led by students, but soon professors, lawyers and other professionals joined them, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction with Alexander Vucic’s government.
