DISINFO: Europe is involved in Zelenskyy's Nazi war against the Ukrainian people and Russia
SUMMARY
The most important symptom of Europe's grave illness is that the European authorities, against the will of their citizens, support the openly barbaric neo-fascist regime in Ukraine, which is pursuing a policy of state terrorism. Europe is effectively participating in the war against Russia and in the war of the Zelenskyy regime against the Ukrainian people.
RESPONSE
This post contains several false claims. Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives accusing European countries of being involved in the War in Ukraine, for supporting terrorism, portraying Ukraine as a Nazi and terrorist state. This article exploits one of the Kremlin's major disinformation narratives, such as global elites vs. the people.
The assertion that European authorities support a 'neo-fascist regime' in Ukraine is a baseless accusation.
This false myth of Nazi Ukraine is a propaganda narrative that became a cornerstone in pro-Kremlin disinformation. Learn more about the reasons behind the Kremlin's obsession with framing Ukraine as a Nazi state in the EUvsDisinfo analysis titled "Nazi east, Nazi west, Nazi over the cuckoo's nest" and "Why does Putin portray himself as the tamer of neo-Nazism".
Ukraine is a democratic country with transparent parliamentary and presidential elections, a multi-party political system, and legal protections for ethnic minorities. While far-right groups exist in Ukraine, as they do in many countries, they hold no significant influence in society. Nazi and Communist ideologies were banned by Ukrainian law in 2015.
Additionally, the claim that Europe is at war with Russia is false. Europe supports Ukraine's right to self-defence against Russia's unprovoked invasion, which began in February 2022, by international law and humanitarian principles.
The EU condemns Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine and actively supports Ukraine’s economy, society, defence, and recovery. The EU has also adopted unprecedented sanctions against Russia.
With this narrative, the Kremlin aims to de-legitimise international support for Ukraine. The claim also fits well in the recurrent disinformation narrative about the West’s alleged support for terrorism and manifests Russia as the only power actually “fighting terrorism” in the world.
Ukraine is illegally attacked by Russia and has the right to self-defence by all means available. The West supports Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s effective self-defence, under the UN Charter Article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
