DISINFO: EU, Ukraine are US puppets in Ukraine war

SUMMARY

Europeans have never wanted to pay for Ukraine, but no one asks their opinion. However, a conflict between them and the Kyiv regime is impossible, since both sides depend on Washington. Therefore, negotiations should go on between Russia and the United States, and Ukraine will simply do what they are told.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Ukraine and Europe’s alleged loss of sovereignty, part of a wider disinformation campaign to justify Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

By calling Ukraine and the European countries “puppets”, or the US “satellites”, this disinformation story aims to portray Ukraine’s self-defence against Russia’s aggression and the international efforts to back Kyiv as serving only US interests. The ultimate goal is to undermine popular support for this aid while denying any legitimacy to Ukraine’s statehood and government.

Many nations around the world are helping Ukraine repel Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression. The weapons being delivered to Ukraine are intended for Ukraine to confront the military forces of Russia’s brutal aggression.

More than 50 countries participating in the Ramstein meetings are providing military, financial or other assistance to help Ukraine's self-defence and to restore its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, in accordance with the UN Charter.

Arming Ukraine was a sovereign decision of each one of these countries.
