DISINFO: EU in decline after following Anglo-Saxon orders against Russia
SUMMARY
The decline of the EU has been marked by a deep economic crisis caused by following the orders Washington gave Brussels to confront the Russian Federation. Europe always lacked a foreign policy because it gets it directed from the US and UK. It does not have a defence policy because it is handled by the US and England through NATO. As a result, in 2023 there has been a clear undermining of the Anglo-Saxon power in Europe.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Europe’s alleged lack of sovereignty. Baseless claims about the EU “following Anglo-Saxon orders against Russia” are an attempt to create breaches between Transatlantic allies while exonerating Moscow from any responsibility for its brutal invasion of Ukraine on February 2023 and the serious humanitarian tragedy it provoked. The EU is reacting to this invasion.
Allegations about a European Union decline as a result of its sanctions against Russia -another common pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative- are not backed by data. According to the International Monetary Fund, the EU’s share of global GDP is expected to be 14.34 percent for 2024, only behind China (19.05 percent) and the US (15.02 percent) and compared to a mere 2.84 percent for Russia.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the US caused the war in Ukraine to undermine Europe's economy, that Europe’s fall continues and poverty is knocking at the door, that Ukraine is a broken toy for the West and it is ruining its finances, that the US is destroying industry in Europe by forcing Brussels to sanction Russia, or that sanctions that were supposed to destroy Russia may disintegrate the EU.
