DISINFO: Drone incident in Romania used to push for war on Russia, raise military spending
SUMMARY
The leaders of the EU and NATO are using the recent drone incident in Romania to push the country closer to war with Russia. Romania blamed Russia, but Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Romania to share data about the incident for an “objective investigation,” while Russia’s ambassador to Bucharest, Vladimir Lipaev, said that there is no proof the drone came from Russia. We ask for an international investigation, as there are only assumptions fueled by anti-Russian fearmongering. Similarly, Bucharest would use the recent drone incident to justify increased defense spending.

No evidence is provided to support the claim, which is an attempt to deflect Russia's responsibility for the impact of a Russian drone against a residential building in Romania on 29 May 2026 by providing a convenient but ultimate false explanation for the incident, suggesting some sort of false flag or information operation to frame Russia.
Despite denials by Russian officials -including by Vladimir Putin himself on 29 May 2026 that the drone in Romania was Russian-, the aircraft was quickly identified by Romanian authorities and NATO as a Russian Geran-2 model. Proofs include footage of the attack and the serial numbers found in the drone debris.
The alternative but baseless explanation offered by this disinformation story -a pretext to push Romania to attack Russia- also advances a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia as the innocent victim of an aggressive West preparing for a war against this country.
