This claim is part of a pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign about the coronavirus, which promotes anti-vaccine messaging, claiming that Western Covid-19 vaccines are “experimental” in order to reinforce the message that these vaccines are harmful to human health.
In Europe, COVID-19 vaccines are tested, approved, constantly monitored, and developed on the basis of the same legal requirements for pharmaceutical quality, safety and efficacy as other medicines. Like all medicines, COVID-19 vaccines’ effects are first tested in the laboratory, including on animals, then vaccines are tested on human volunteers.
COVID-19 vaccines are also the most effective medical tool to protect citizens from the most serious effects of the virus. The vaccines have been authorised by the competent authorities after three phases of trials and tests that have established their effectiveness on thousands of people.
