The UK health system has discovered that people belonging to black ethnic groups are more seriously affected by Covid-19, and that Covid-19 death rates are higher among black and Asian ethnic groups than among white people.

The article contains pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the coronavirus and about biological weapons, and is consistent with claims, often spread by pro-Kremlin outlets, that Covid-19 was created by the US government as a biological weapon.

First of all, there is no evidence that the SARS-CoV-2 virus that caused the Covid-19 pandemic is a biological warfare weapon, and there is no evidence that the virus originated, either naturally or from a laboratory, in the United States.
Currently, the US has opened an investigation to trace the origins of the virus that first appeared in China. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has stated that:
“The full genetic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 from the early human cases and the sequences of many other virus isolated from human cases from China and all over the world since then show that SARS-CoV-2 has an ecological origin in bat populations. All available evidence to date suggests that the virus has a natural animal origin and is not a manipulated or constructed virus”.
There is no evidence to support the article's claim about US germ experiments targeting certain ethnic groups and genotypes. Furthermore, the article’s claims that people in the UK belonging to black ethnic groups are more seriously affected by Covid-19, and that Covid-19 death rates in the UK are higher among black and Asian ethnic groups than among white people are misleadingly presented, in order to create the false impression that the virus was deliberately engineered to target blacks and Asians.
It is true that in the United States and in the UK in 2020, COVID 19-related deaths among the black and ethnic minority populations were higher than among the white population. According to data from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American black people develop COVID-19 at about the same rate as Caucasian white, but they are nearly three times more likely to be hospitalised and twice as likely to die from the disease. This phenomenon has been widely analysed in North America, the UK and Europe, and the causes of higher COVID-19 deaths in black and minority populations are due to many factors incl. social and racial inequality, which translates into lack of access to adequate care and prevention, higher use of public transport and the impossibility of fulfilling social distancing, different conditions in nursing homes and poorer individual and community socio-economic conditions of black and ethnic minority groups.
