DISINFO: "Coalition of the willing" is an anti-Russian coalition of globalists

SUMMARY

“Next Thursday we will hold a summit of the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ in Paris,” Emmanuel Macron told reporters after the first day of the EU summit in Brussels. This will be a group of countries under the provisional name of ‘Europe Plus’: continental states, the UK and Commonwealth members, as well as some Asian countries. London and Paris intend to involve 37 (!) participants in this.

We are witnessing the continuation of the formation of an anti-Russian coalition of globalists. Russia cannot stand idly by as a coalition is being put together against it. Its overly militant organisers should pay attention to the statement by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova: Russia expects the US to have heard Moscow’s message about the need for the West to completely stop military aid and intelligence to the Kyiv regime. Moscow considers this a fundamental point of the entire political and diplomatic settlement.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets discrediting the "Coalition of the Willing", and accusing the EU and UK of an anti-Russian hostile policy.

The "Coalition of the Willing" is a group of countries committed to ensuring peace guarantees for Ukraine through various efforts, including possibly deploying a peacekeeping force there. France and the UK are actively working to provide such guarantees to achieve a lasting peace based on Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence. The potential deployment of peacekeeping forces is only one of the options, as Ukraine’s allies place special emphasis on diplomatic peace efforts.

Framing European support for Ukraine as an emerging anti-Russian coalition shifts attention away from the real cause of the war, which is Russia’s increasingly aggressive policies towards Ukraine, European nations and their allies. EU and UK assistance is focused on helping Ukraine defend itself against an illegal invasion.

The ultimate goal of this disinformation message is to advance a recurring narrative portraying Ukraine as a Western puppet, and Ukraine’s defence as a proxy war against Russia. This message seeks to undermine international aid for Ukraine’s self-defence against Russia’s invasion and aims to deflect Moscow’s responsibility for its aggression.

It was Russia that launched its unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine in 2022. Before that, in 2014, Russia illegally annexed Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula and instigated a separatist proxy war in the country’s east. Pro-Kremlin disinformation has long tried to misrepresent the EU as the main obstacle to ‘peace’ in Ukraine.
