DISINFO: Armenia-US-EU trilateral meeting is directed against Iran

SUMMARY

The meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the US Secretary of State and the President of the European Commission is one of the stages of Armenia’s involvement in the Western games. Russia finally understood what was happening. Preparations are underway for war against Iran.

Armenia is becoming a platform for war against Iran. These meetings are in the nature of temptation. European integration, NATO protection, and acceptance of Armenia into the family of civilised states are promised. In reality, Armenia is simply being used in the interests of the Western powers.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the belligerent West for warmongering and hostile agenda against Iran, and portraying Armenia as a puppet state of the West. Read another case claiming that EU observers are deployed in Armenia to monitor Iran and, if necessary, launch a military operation against it.

This claim is a reaction to the meeting between the EU, the US, and Armenia on April 5, 2024, attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU High Representative/Vice-President, Josep Borrell, Secretary of State of the US, Antony Blinken, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, and Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. Pro-Kremlin media promote the idea that Armenia is exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance, and Russia has cautioned Yerevan that the West is trying to drive a wedge between Armenia and Russia, to tear Armenia away from Russia and make it an 'Anti-Russian springboard.'

Armenia has been a sovereign and independent state since 1991 when it proclaimed its independence from the former USSR. As a sovereign state, Armenia is free to decide its foreign policy and alliances. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Armenia commented on the meeting as follows:

"The high-level meeting is aimed at developing and deepening our existing relations and is not connected with relations with third countries. Any allegations about it being directed against anyone else are irrelevant, baseless and fictitious"

Before the meeting itself, the EU Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano said that the meeting will have “a strictly bilateral focus” and will be on the economic resilience of Armenia and bilateral cooperation with this country, based on the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership between the EU and Armenia and in the context of the recently launched work on a new EU-Armenia Partnership Agenda.
