DISINFO: Anglo-Saxons decided to turn Armenia into another anti-Russian front

SUMMARY

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is doing everything that former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the current head of state did. Pashinyan is following a well-trodden path, which was decided for him by the Anglo-Saxons, who decided to turn Armenia into another anti-Russian front.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the belligerent West trying to encircle Russia, carrying out deliberately anti-Russian policies and aggressive Russophobia, and presenting Armenia as a puppet state of the West.

This claim was made in the context of the decision to withdraw Russian border guards from Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan. Russia’s border guard service has been present at Zvartnots airport since 1992. PM Pashinyan stated that Armenian border guards can control the border without the assistance of Russia.

Armenia has been a sovereign and independent state since 1991 when it proclaimed its independence from the former USSR. As a sovereign state, Armenia is free to decide its foreign policy and alliances.

Additionally, drawing parallels between Armenia and Ukraine, serves to a recurring disinformation claim that the West allegedly provoked the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. It is one of the key messages of Putin’s propaganda, justifying Russia's full-scale and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
