DISINFO: Accusations of Russia "shelling the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine" are hypocrisy
SUMMARY
The Union is pursuing a confrontational policy, and all accusations of Russia of shelling the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine are hypocrisy.
We consider it the height of hypocrisy to accuse Russia of “shelling the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine”. The European Union has lost the moral right to say anything about war crimes, since for 8 years it has turned a blind eye to the killings of civilians, women and children as a result of shelling of the Donbas territories by the Kyiv regime.
RESPONSE
A recurring disinformation narrative claiming that Russian troops do not hit civilian objects during Moscow’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Recurring narrative presenting the eight-year-long conflict in Eastern Ukraine as a one-sided genocide, perpetrated by Ukraine.
There is rich evidence that Russia is committing war crimes in Ukraine, such as the shelling of hospitals, churches, shopping malls, killing civilians, raping, as well as using imprecise weapons.
Human rights organisations and the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, document that the invasion of Ukraine was carried out through indiscriminate attacks and strikes on civilian objects.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 15,908 civilian casualties in the country: 6,306 killed and 9,602 injured. by 17 October UN mission update, and nearly 1,000 children killed or injured.
There is plenty of evidence of attacks on civilian targets: attacks on cultural properties; attacks on hospitals and medical care facilities; Mariupol theatre airstrike; Mariupol hospital airstrike; mass shelling of residential areas; bombing of Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Odesa, Vynnitsia, Kremenchuk etc. Russian troops killed and tortured hundreds of civilians in the town of Bucha and Izium. Similar atrocities have been discovered in many other cities where Russian forces were in control.
Attacks on health facilities continue unabated, 473 WHO-verified attacks have been recorded this past half-year in Ukraine, resulting in at least 98 deaths and 134 injuries.
The European Union is supporting the International Criminal Court in the ongoing investigations into war crimes committed by Russian forces in Ukraine.
Ukraine was not at war with millions of people from Donetsk and Luhansk as pro-Kremlin media presents the situation. The aim is to present the situation in Eastern Ukraine as an internal civil conflict, ignoring irrefutable evidence of direct Russian military involvement in the region. The war in Eastern Ukraine was a well-documented act of aggression by Russian armed forces. Russia was supporting its proxies with weapons, its active-duty soldiers served there and its top military commanders to coordinate joint efforts with the separatists. Despite all this Russia officially denied its military presence in Donbas for the past 8 years. Thousands dead people – military and civilian alike – are a result of a war that Russia started in Ukraine in February 2014.
