DISINFO: 6 people died because of the Pfizer vaccine
SUMMARY
American reports state that six people who received the Pfizer vaccine [against the Coronavirus] died during its initial trials.
RESPONSE
This is part of a disinformation campaign aiming to discredit any Western vaccines in order to support the image of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine after the latter was met with scepticism and criticism, even by Russian specialists in the country.
The claim is partly false.
Six people did die during the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine trials, but only two of them were given the vaccine. The other four were given a safe placebo solution of salt and water.
Furthermore, no causal relationship was established between the vaccine and the two deaths, which occurred in line with the normal death rate for the general population, as both of them were older than 55. One died of cardiac arrest 62 days after vaccination and the other from arteriosclerosis, a condition where blood vessels can harden with age, three days after vaccination.
